COMPUTER SECURITY
Definition : Computer security means protecting our computer
system and the information that contain against unwanted access, damage,
destruction or modification.
MALICIOUS CODE
Definition : Malicious code is also known as a rogue
program. It is threat to computing assets by causing undesired effects in the
programmer’s part. There are various kinds of malicious code.
i) Virus. Virus is a program that can pass on the
malicious code to other program by modifying them. It attaches itself to the
program usually files with *.doc, *.xls and *.exe.
ii) Trojan horse. Trojan horse is a program which can
perform useful an expected action. It must be installed by the users or
intruders before it can affect the system’s assets.
iii) Logic bomb. Logic bomb is a malicious code that goes
off when a specific condition occurs. An example of logic bomb is a time bomb.
It goes out and causes threats at a specific time or date.
iv) Trapdoor and backdoor. A feature in a program that
allows someone to access the program with special privileges.
v) Worm. A program that copies itself and spread through
the network.
